Do you want to get your kids outside? Breathing fresh air? Away from the computer, tv, cell phone & ipad? Playing with other kids? And learning a thing or two??
Cub Scouts is open to boys and girls in kindergarten through fifth grade. Our focus is on having fun while building character, teaching citizenship, and promoting personal fitness, through small group and family activities. You can join Cub Scouts at any time!
Cubs are grouped by grade into “Dens”. Over the course of the year, the Cubs work on earning their rank badge by completing eight “Adventures”. There are six required “Adventures”, focused on Character, Outdoors, Personal Fitness, Citizenship, Personal Safety and Family & Reverence. The Den then works on two additional “Adventures” from a long list of options. Once the Cubs have earned the eight “Adventures”, they have earned their rank for the year! The ranks are Lion (K), Tiger (1st grade), Wolf (2nd grade), Bear (3rd grade), Webelos (4th grade) and Arrow of Light (5th grade). Dens typically meet twice a month.
Once a month, the Dens get together for a Pack meeting. There will be an activity, such as fishing, the Raingutter Regatta, or the famous Pinewood Derby! The scouts will also receive beltloops for the Adventures that they have completed over the prior month. By the end of the year, in May or June, the scouts will receive their rank badge.
Over the summer, scouts can continue their outdoor fun and adventures by going to Monmouth Council’s Quail Hill Day Camp, in Manalapan NJ. Click here for more information.
Here is a video with a good overview of the program. The only thing that has changed since this was created is that there is no “joining fee” anymore. Click this link for the video.
